About Us

HISTORY

The Tennessee Technology Centers (formerly State Area Vocational- Technical Schools) were established as a statewide system by the enactment of the Legislature during the 1963 General Assembly and operate under the Tennessee Board of Regents.

The contract for the first building was awarded in February, 1964.  At the present time, there are 26 Technology Centers which offer occupational training.  Each Center is designed to serve both youth and adults from broad geographic areas. This is in fulfillment of the expressed intent of the General Assembly that ultimately there would be a Technology Center or Centers within reasonable commuting distance of every citizen.

In 1994, the Tennessee Legislature passed legislation changing our school's name from the State Area Vo-Tech School to the Tennessee Technology Center to better reflect the school's mission and due to training becoming more technical.

The Tennessee Technology Center at Crump began operations in 1965.  The original campus facility was enlarged with the addition of a Technology Building in 1992.  The school is designed to serve citizens from a broad geographical area and serves a five county area including Hardin, McNairy, Decatur, Chester, and Henderson Counties.  It is located on a 18-acre tract of land on Highway 64, in Crump.

The Tennessee Technology Center at Crump is a modern training facility designed to simulate the occupational environment found in potential places of employment.  The controlling purpose of the training offered is to prepare individuals for useful and gainful occupations, thereby enhancing their potential for employment.

All persons availing themselves of this opportunity for training are expected to fulfill his/her commitment to utilize the facilities provided and to make satisfactory progress in his/her preparation for employment.  In addition, each student will abide by the policies necessary to assure all training achieves its intended purpose in an efficient and safe manner.

Efforts are made to update equipment and course content in order to provide educational experiences necessary for an era of rapid technological change.  The administrative and instructional staff are comprised of skilled and knowledgeable journeymen who are competent in an occupational field, as well as being proficient instructors.  They avail themselves of special in-service training such as state directed workshops, field trips, and university courses.

Graduates of the Tennessee Technology Center at Crump should  not be expected to compete with journeymen who have developed skills and on the job experience.  Usually, the graduates are considered for "entry-level" employment in their respective occupation.

STUDENT SERVICES

Student Services include those activities involving recruitment, pre-enrollment counseling and training  period counseling.  Although training period counseling  is the responsibility of the administration, counseling  and instructional staff, the school has an occupational  guidance counselor available to assist students in  making their selection of a career objective.  The counselor assists students in matters concerning their education, personal and social problems, and financial aid.  Since students come from varied backgrounds, the counselor is cognizant of the student's need for guidance and counseling in the vocational setting.

The programs at Tennessee Technology Center at Crump  are designed to prepare students for a specific vocational objective; therefore, it is important that an intelligent vocational selection be made based upon the student's interests, aptitudes, and abilities.
