The Machine Tool Technology course prepares students to enter the work place as a trained apprentice. Each stage is designed to build on the previous level and to allow the student to advance at his or her own pace. The program has two certificate achievement levels and two diploma areas.


These are as follows:

Production Machine Tender

Certificate - 432 hours
Production Machine Tender will be able to become skillful in tending specific machine shop equipment. Completion of the course earns acertificate and includes the following training areas:

  • Safety & Orientation
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Bench & Layout Work
  • Basic Skills
  • Shop Theory
  • Shop Math
  • Drill Press & Power Saws

Machine Set-Up Operator

Certificate - 864 hours
The Machine Set-Up Operator will prepare the trainee to be skillful in the set-up and performance of different operations on a variety of machine procedures. Upon completion, the student receives a certificate which covers all Production Machine Tender subjects plus:

  • Lathes
  • Basic Blueprint Reading
  • Basic Milling Machine Training

Maintenance Machinist

Diploma - 1,728 hours
The Maintenance Machinist program is designed to perfect the skills developed during the Production Machine Tender and Machine Set-Up Operator certificate areas of training. The Maintenance Machinist upon completion of the course, students will be proficient in the previous certificates plus:

  • Milling Machines
  • Surface Grinding
  • Maintenance & Repair
  • Heat Treating
  • Welding
  • Blueprint Reading

Machinist 1

Diploma - 2,160 hours
The Machinist 1 is the final level and is designed to develop the skills a Machinist needs to operate computerized equipment as well as computer aided drafting (CAD)/computer aided machining (CAM). Upon completion, the student receives a diploma. It includes all courses from Production Machine Tender, Machine Set-Up Operator and Maintenance Machinist. The final area of training includes:

  • Computer and Machine Operation Skills
  • Computerized Machinery Set-up and Operation
  • Computerized Numerical Control (CNC)
  • Computer Aided Drafting/Computer Aided Machining(CAD/CAM)
