Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing Program is designed to prepare the student to take the State Board of Nursing Exam and become a well trained Licensed Practical Nurse. This year long program consists of a combination of classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences which enables the student to be exposed to the wide variety of tasks and responsibilities required of today's Practical Nurse. This class is very demanding of it's students as is required of all State Board of Nursing approved programs. The curriculum includes units of the following:
- Vocational Relationships
- Basic Science and Anatomy & Physiology
- Nutrition and Diet Therapy
- Nursing Principles and Skills
- Pharmacology & Administration of Medication
- Basic IV Therapy
- Medical Surgical Nursing
- Geriatric Nursing
- Psychiatric Nursing & Mental Health Concepts
- Obstetrical Nursing
- Pediatric Nursing
- Advanced Vocational Relationships
Enrollment Information
Those who possess a High School Diploma or a G.E.D., are 18 years of age by July 1 or older, and obtain a passing score on the Compass Assessment Test or obtain a 19 on all sub-parts of the ACT college entrance test within the past two years may apply for admission. Classes are formed on a yearly basis and filled with those how successfully complete the screening process. This is a full-time program that consists of 1,296 hours and a diploma award. The classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (meeting times for the clinical portion may vary.)
PN Program Approximate Timeline
- Application process begins with a MANDATORY Information Session scheduled in the spring (TBA), call center for date.
- Practical nursing packets including information and application available for pick up on campus, the dates with be made available during the informational meeting.
- Applications due in June of each year.
- Review of applications, and if needed, interviews will be conducted during the month of July.
- Notification of students accepted into the program in August.
- Classes begin in September each year
