Welding Technology

Picture of Welding Technology

Our Welding Technology Program is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to acquire the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required for employment as a combination welder.  We accomplish this task through classroom instruction and practical welding exercises carried out in an industrial shop setting.  Welding Processes such as Flux Cored Arc, Gas Metal Arc, Gas Tungsten Arc and Shielded Metal Arc are covered in depth.

Welding is a dynamic industry with a bright future.  The influence of welding is so broad that many of the product designs and building techniques of our modern day would not be possible without it.  In fact, with developments in technology, there is almost no limit to what welding can do.  As the demand for skilled welders continues to rise and the technology of welding becomes more advanced, students have a unique opportunity to learn a career that will shape the future.

Welder Qualification Testing and Certification  (40 hrs)

Certification is important to employers and it can mean the difference between employment and unemployment for the welder.  This stand alone course is designed to provide the welder with an opportunity to become certified.  The welder will be provided with the necessary equipment and materials to perform qualification tests on 3/8” thick steel plate and 6” Schedule 80 steel pipe.  The welder may choose to test in accordance with one or all of the following; AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code-Steel, AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code or API Standard 1104 for Pipelines and Related Facilities.  Apon successful completion of the qualification tests a Welder Qualification Test Record will be issued and stamped by an AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
